Word Prob

by beater » Fri Dec 19, 2008 9:24 am
Bob and Wendy planned to walk from their home to a restaurant for dinner together. However, Bob was delayed at work, and Wendy left for the restaurant before Bob did. If the restaurant is 3 miles from their home and Bob left for the restaurant a half-hour after Wendy did, how long did Wendy have to wait for Bob at the restaurant?

(1) Wendy walked at a constant pace of 4 miles per hour

(2) Bob walked at a constant pace of 1 mile per hour faster than Wendy.

IMO C

Wendy speed = 4
in half hour she travels : 2 miles

Now Bob starts

bob speed = 5
time taken to make it.... 3/5 that is .6 hours

now wendy require another 15 minutes to reach the rest...

36minutes - 15 minutes = 21 minutes she has to wait

hence we require both 1 and 2 to solve the problem

I agree. To make sure its not B, lets take an extreme case example. Let's say she walks at 30 miles/hour. She will get to the restaurant in 6 min. So she has to wait at least 24 more min for Bob to get there, since he only leaves 30 min after her...so obviously it depends on their speeds.
