help plz..

I have to take the GMAT on the 29th...

I just took my first practice test with the GMATprep software.
There was no score displayed at the end of the exam. I was only told 18 incorrect out of 37 quant, and 15 incorrect out of 41 verbal. My plan was to study for the next 7 days... based on my score. I have OG guide 12th ed.

I wish I had more time, but the fact is I don't.

Best way to move on from here?


can anyone explain why people post Q49 V49? There are only 37 quant and 41 verbal Q's

From your post i can clearly see that you are new to GMAT..

My first recommendation: see if you can postpone your test.

If not, Its time to get down and dirty..

Firstly, make yourself familiar with GMAT.. Let me give you a start..

3 sections:
1. AWA - 2 essays
2. Quant - 37 questions -> 2 types - Prooblem solving and Data Sufficiency.
3. Verbal - 41 questions -> 3 types - Sentence correction, Reading comprehension and Critical reasoning.

Eventhough there are only 37 questions in Quant and 41 questions in Verbal, these sections are scored on a scale of 0 to 60 (although i think the max you can score is 51 on each of them) Thats the reason you saw some ppl write Q49 V49. Thats their score, nothing to do with how many they got write or wrong.

How the score is calculated - Its actually a mystery!!! GMAC uses a scoring algorigth to calculate the score adaptively.

What this means to you - When you start the first question you see on the screen with medium difficulty. If you get it right you get a more difficult question and you score increases a little by some level. If you get it wrong the computer will give you an easier question but will reduce your score a bit. This process continues throughout the section and at the end the computer will have a good guess at your skill level and will show you a score..

BTW i have no idea why you didn't see a score after you took the first practice test.

It should display something like: 550 or 620 or 700 and should display your quant and verbal scores!!!

Anyways. take a day to make yourself absolutely comfortable with the nuances of GMAT. Then start by studying the various topics tested on the GMAT and take another practice test.

Not that once you have take both the GMATPrep practice test you could retake them. Some questions will repeat but you'll definitely have some good practice and will see a lot of new ones too!!!

If it's possible to postpone the test without a penalty, you might consider doing that. Otherwise, study hard and do your best! Remember that you can take the test again if you're not pleased with your score.
