Hi everyone,

I thought I'd put my profile out here and see what you may think.

Undergrad:
Film and Video Production at Rutgers
Overall GPA: 3.2 / Major GPA: 3.6
Deans List for 3 semesters.

Extra curriculars:
Developed and Executed a stage show centered around domestic violence with a friend, and am looking to revise the script for touring.
NYC/NJ chapter coordinator of Asha for Education - all volunteer non profit which helps underprivileged children in India go to school.
Volunteered for 6 months at a suicide hotline.

Background:

While studying fulltime - I was heavily involved with the family business in real estate investment and development. This made for an interesting college career - literally negotiating contracts with vendors and contractors in between classes, and ultimately set me back a year (graduated in 5 years instead of 4) because of the time commitment needed.

I joined NY1 news (a 24 hour local news channel in New York City) right after graduating as a free lance shooter (camera person) for about 1 year before deciding journalism was simply not my thing - and transitioned into working on short film and commercial sets after graduating as producer, production and location manager. I decided to join the family business full time after this, where I am today.

I've served in different capacities throughout the growth of the business (seen it develop from owning and operating 1 property to a several small developments and a renovation and conversion of a factory) - namely in operations, business execution and investment advising. Currently I'm in charge of project execution and development and marketing of a hospitality venture we acquired in PA.

I'm looking to major in

I'm studying for my GMATs currently and and hoping to take them in a few weeks. My goal are the top 5 schools in this round, I wonder if this is doable though. If I manage to pull off a decent score (my goal: 760), I wonder what I should do about LORs, and how I might be able to describe my experiences both in a family business and the arts?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I don't know when you started studying for the GMAT or how intellectually gifted you are - so what I'm telling you is based on my experience.

I tried penning my essays and studying for my GMAT December last year. I had already started studying in November. In the end I tanked my GMAT. I had all these balls to juggle and it caused me a great deal of stress.

One month doesn't seem like a lot to study for the GMAT, write BSchool Essays and get your recommenders in order, especially around Christmas. I would advise you to apply next year.

You have a unique enough profile to have a shot at the top 5. It's all about execution now mate.

Humblebee - thanks for your post! To answer your question: I started studying a few weeks ago and yeah, I'm slowly and painfully coming to the realization that I may have to wait for round 1 of next year rather than cram it in(still have LORs + essays left)

I wonder of someone else might ave insights on my profile as of now? My goals are the top 5 and perhaps NYU.
