8 days to go..

by siddhu161 » Sat Feb 01, 2014 1:15 am
Hi All,

Need your help in deciding strategy for last 8 days before test.
I have gone through MGMAT n GMAT prep tests. I am currently scoring between 650-700. With Quant most of the time 47-48.
I am aiming at 700 so please let me know how to prepare in this last week.
I am ok with RC as generally gets 10/11/12 questions right.
SC is ok except idiomatic usages where I am weak.
and CR is problem whenever it comes to problems such as Two bold face sections and All weaken the argument EXCEPT.

Please help me with strategy to follow for next 8 days.

Thanks,
Siddharth

Good luck with the last couple of days -- I am sharing two posts that I think you will find QUITE helpful.

https://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/index ... an-part-1/
https://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/index ... ew-part-2/

I encourage people to 'shut it down' at least 24 hours before the test, if not 36 or more. It's just as important to be physically and mentally ready to take this test as it is to spend anothe rtwo hours reviewing idioms again.

Hope this helps.

Brian

Hi siddhu161,

What are your specific Scaled Scores (for the Quant and Verbal sections) of your last few practice CATs? Right now, you're speaking in generalities, so the best that you can hope for is general advice. With specific info, you're likely to get far more specific suggestions.

Thanks Brian and Rich.

About specific score as I mentioned. Quant is always 47-48-49 for last 4 tests.
Verbal is ranging from 29-33-34.

Today also I attempted GMAT Prep exam pack 2 and scored 660. Q48 V32.
I came across my another weakness: I was sure of my RC being better than CR and SC so have not revised RC for last more than 8 days. (I am working professional so get generally 2 hours daily at the max which I used in revising CR n SC) and hence got 5 questions wrong in RC in today's test. I followed the same method for RC which I have been doing for last 4 tests. (Taking notes of each para and then start looking at the questions).

I know there is no score booster for last few days but I will be taking 7 days leave now so just want your suggestions in juggling among all these revision tasks.

In addition to strengthening any content skills, you should also devote some time to developing the right mindset/attitude for test day. We cover this in these two BTG articles:
- https://www.beatthegmat.com/mba/2011/04/ ... n-the-gmat
- https://www.beatthegmat.com/mba/2013/06/ ... -destroyer

Also, be sure to hone your test-taking skills (endurance, time management. etc.) If you're interested, we have a free GMAT time management video at https://www.gmatprepnow.com/module/gener ... es?id=1244

Cheers,

Hi siddhu161,

You're scoring in a good "range" right now, so you really don't need to do too much before your Official GMAT. With your current skills, you could score above 700 on Test Day. I'd suggest that you go back and review the Verbal sections for your last few CATs. What tactics worked for you? When you got a question wrong, WHY did you get it wrong? Did you "narrow it down to 2 and then guess wrong"? If that's the case, then you need to figure out what details you missed or what extra notes you could have taken to help you get those extra points.

I agree wholeheartedly with Brent. As you get closer to the end -- it's much more about 'being ready' mentally and physically as it is knowledge-wise. A good energy level and good attitude can go a LONG way on test day.

Please let us know how you did!
