From 650 to 720

by mbaquest » Mon Oct 20, 2008 8:27 pm
Hi,

I just took my gmat today and improved my score from 650 to 720 (Q49 & V40). I benifited from several posts on this forum and thought would share my experience.

First off, improving timing was the most crucial aspect in improving my score. Last time when I took the test ,I panicked and was not able to keep track of the time (or not able to catch up once I slipped the specified time I had originally planned). I learnt from my mistake and focused on timing this time with better result.

Another thing I would like mention is that, though GMATprep is a good preparatory and practise software, it may not be a good indicator of performance. I found several questions from OG11 repeat during GMATpret so couldn't really trust the score reports. Just think of this, it may be that you would just see 4 questions from GMAT OG11, but as you are likely to answers to these questions already, it will buy you time (atleast 5-6 minutes) to answer rest of the questions. I do not know whether others feel the same, but this is what I felt during GMAT prep tests.

Another key thing is that be prepared for the most unexpected. I had few theoritical stuff in data sufficiency which really threw me off .. so just be prepared .. The quant section is not likely to be tougher than GMAT prep or MGMAT (for those who dont know Manhattan GMAT) tests, but the key is to be focused. Thought I never scored below 50 in my practise tests (any software), my quant score was always shy of my practise test score.

I would say pepping up myself was another key aspect of my performance today. Last time when I took the test, I kept thinking, this is the most important exam I am going to attempt in some time and I better do it right. But this time around I kept telling myself, well .. i prepared as well I could .. and I know I am going to do well .. so let me go and take the chance and do well ..

Good luck to folks who are yet to take exam ..
