TO find: x+y

Statement 1:
x^2 + y^2 = 17
(x+y)^2 - 2xy = 17
(x+y)^2 = 17 + 2(4) = 25
x+y = 5 or -5
INSUFFICIENT


Statement 2:
x-y = 3
(x+y)(x-y) = 15
(x+y) (3) = 15
(x+y) = 5
SUFFICIENT
