Hello there,

First of all, congratulations on your wonderful GMAT score! That will be a mighty big help in applying. You seem to have quite good work experience, although you didn't really elaborate about your leadership, promotion schedule, awards, and achievements, so I don't really have the full picture as to how you might match up in comparison with other candidates with similar backgrounds. The nicest thing I see is that you are currently leading a team of three, which is great! So many candidates apply without having any leadership experience at all, and what you have here will be a great benefit to you.

Your long-term and short-term goals both make sense, but not so much together. I think you can for sure make an argument for either, but the problem is that your short-term goals don't necessarily logically lead to your long-term goals. If your long-term goals are to truly take the family NGO local, then they AdCom will want to see you doing everything you can to work on it from NOW on, and your short-term goals should match. So for example, if instead of general management consulting you were to propose "joining a consulting firm specializing in NGO consulting" then that would make a LOT more sense to me.

Otherwise, since you are revolving your goal around a "family business" a lot will also depend on the Adcoms view of this business, and of your ability to convince them of its potential. so keep that in mind when you apply.

Hi Vivek,

Your profile looks decent. Your work experience and GMAT score are both good. You made a wise decision to move from a Software developer to Business advisory role. This will help you differentiate yourself from other Indian IT applicants.

While your short term goal looks sensible, the long term goal doesnt go well with it especially from MBA admissions perspective. We suggest that you keep the CSR/ NGO thing as an extra curricular activity and talk about that somewhere is you application but dont present it as your career goal. Taking a NGO to next level might not require a MBA degree. So, the story may fall apart.

You may want to target schools such as Ross, Darden , Cornell and George Washington which are good for social entrepreneurship. Put a consulting/ GM story for admissions purpose as most of these are good for consulting and GM as well.

Feel free to contact us for any queries.

Hi Vivek,

You have a good GMAT score. With 3 yrs. of work experience you may target schools like: Wharton, Kellogg, Booth, Tuck, UCLA-Anderson, Berkely-Haas, Duke, Darden, Ross & CMU-Tepper. Subsequently, you need to work hard on your application essays and showcase professionalism, achievements and headship qualities during final interviews. As you are quite focused on long term goals, therefore be ready to answer the Adcoms on how an admission to ... b-school would help you to achieve your long term goals, what value you would create in the classroom, etc.

Let me know in case of any assistance required. You may PM your details for free profile evaluation and selection of b-school.

Best
