710 (Q47, V40) - Good enough?

by winnerhere » Tue Jun 28, 2011 1:59 am
Hi All,

710 (92nd percentile) - My first attempt

Q47 ( 77th percentile)
V40 (89th percentile)

Is it good enough for schools like Duke Fuqua,NUS?

Totally confused...Should I retake!!

Thanks,
Sai

Congrats on the 700+ score.

Enough or not depends on profile pal.

If you are from IT with 4-5 years exp, then it's tight. But again, if you have good extracurriculars, strong story etc, then it might well be enough.
Vineesh,
Just telling you what I know and think. I am not the expert. :)

Question is do you think 710 is the true indicator of your true potential? Do you think you can improve the score? And most importantly do you have enough time to give another GMAT without spoiling your application process?

Thanks prodizy and vineesh.

I regularly scored 49 - 51 in quant and I always felt that I am quite good in quants. I am sure I will be able to score a 49-51 in quant on next attempt.

But wanted to know how much impact it will have on the application? How much competitive is this score in a school like Terrer/Fuqua/ISB

Obviously GMAT score adds SOME weight. If a guy with a profile similar to you scores a 750, he is going to get preference. I also THINK if you have a sub par academic record, a high GMAT scores balance that out... It all comes down to time. If you can manage another GMAT without effecting your application process, go for it.

I have the same score as you and I would tell you don't worry about it at all. You need to show why you are a good fit into the MBA program. Wasting your time taking the exam could backfire and maybe result in a same score or even less (it is likely). A girl got into Cornell with a 610. I think there is some weight to a higher GMAT score...but unless you score a 760 your score won't matter...The margin is 40 points. I had a 600 and 620 last year. So my increase is more than just marginal.
