When to take GMATPrep test?

by NextGreatLeader » Thu Jul 05, 2012 5:45 am
When is the recommended time to take the first GMATPrep test? I'd like to get an accurate idea of my current level, but I'm hesitant to waste one of the GMATPrep tests when I'm only about halfway through my studying. I'm currently enrolled in the Knewton course, and I haven't yet worked through the OG's.

I know you can take the test multiple times, but then your score is inflated.

Should I take a GMATPrep test now, wait until I've finished Knewton, or wait until I've completed some of the OG problems?

I'm a big fan of taking a practice test early.
I think that it gives you a good idea of how much work you have ahead of you, and it helps builds confidence later on when you inevitably exceed your first score at a later date.
Yes, when you retake a practice test at a later date, your score may be inflated. However, the number of repeated questions is pretty minor, and there are ways to lessen the extent to which your retake score is inflated.

I wrote an article about all of this: https://www.beatthegmat.com/mba/2010/03/ ... iple-times

Cheers,

Both tests can be repeated many times. The first repeats are as good as fresh ones. All the 4 scores will be good indicator of your actual score. The subsequent repeat test scores will be inflated.
Getting defeated is just a temporary notion, giving it up is what makes it permanent.
