Worth the money?

by GISMB » Sun Jun 06, 2010 5:07 pm
So, I just got a 770 on my first GMAT Prep test. I was a bit surprised, because I haven't done any studying for about 6 months, and the last practice test I took was a Kaplan that I got a 700 on.

I was about to buy some of the Manhattan guides and the OG12, but now I've got them sitting in my amazon cart and that $100 is looking kind of expensive, given that I already scored pretty high on the practice test. My goal is perhaps 750.

What do you think? How reliable is the GMAT Prep test? Am I just wasting my money, or would it really be beneficial?

You look pretty strong to me. When are you planning to give the exam? What is your background?

In my opinion, you should definitely consider buying OG12 and practice all questions regardless of your test date. And practice as many GMATPreps as possible (see that you take GMATPreps towards the end of your preparation).

Planning to take it Jul 3. Stanford is my top choice, and I'm trying to make up for a low (3.2) undergrad GPA. I did have a physics minor though, which I think is helping me here.

Maybe I'll just grab OG12 then and skip the mgmat books.

I don't think I've ever heard someone say- "Man, I shouldn't have spent that 25 dollars on the official gude" :) 100 dollars is a relatively small investment if you consider the potential downside of not doing well, and no one has ever been hurt by studying. That said, the GMATPrep test is probably the most accurate test out there so you're looking pretty good. Did you take the entire test under test like conditions (8 minutes breaks etc..?)

Well admittedly I skipped the AWA, but aside from that it was pretty testlike. I went with the OG and one of the mgmats. Figured the 6 extra practice tests would be worth the price of the book.

Thanks guys!

You can download the two gmat prep test from mba.com

In order to get the MGMAT tests, you will have to buy one of their guides and register the guide on their website.
