Neither/Nor and Subject/Verb argreement??

by moham277 » Sat Dec 27, 2008 1:53 pm
Hi, I am studying Spidey's SC notes and I need help.....I'm not a native English speaker and I'm having a hard time figuring out what is the verb/subject in each sentence.....How can I identify the verb/subject in each sentence more easily?? Thanks!

In neither … nor sentences, the verb has to agree with the subject following nor-

EX/ Neither the prosecutor’s eloquent closing argument nor the mountains of incriminating evidence were able to convince the jury to find the defendant guilty.

I know the subject following the nor is mountains but what is the verb following neither??

"were" is the verb following "neither" that agrees with the plural "mountains"
