My first attempt at GMATPrep..

Hi guys,
I am an asian female working in the IT sector and am new to this forum and to GMAT as well.
I have not started preparing and took the GMATPrep's practice exam 1 as my first step and also to know my baseline score. I socred 600 (Q44/V28). I must admit that i actually did a few guess works in the quant section and want to know whether that drastically effects my score?
Any other suggestions as to how to prepare amidst a tight work schedule would be very helpful.

Hi sonal singh,

Your initial practice Test score is encouraging; most Test Takers don't score quite so high on their first practice CATs. Having to "guess" on some questions is quite common on the GMAT (since you're not allowed to skip questions, but you have to get to them all).

There are plenty of options to prep for the GMAT (Books, Courses, etc.), so if you can answer a few questions, I'll be happy to advise:

1) What is your score goal?
2) When do you want to apply to school?
3) How much time do you plan to study?

Thanks a ton for your reply.
My score goal is anything above 700.
I want to apply by next year and I am planning to take the GMAT by July-Aug this year.
I can give 2 hours on week days and 4-5 hrs on weekends.

Is my planning flawed?
Please suggest.

Hi Sonal,

You've given yourself plenty of time to study, which is good. Now you need a study routine that fits your timeline and your availability. As a general rule, I recommend a 3-month study plan for most people, as that gives everyone plenty of time to learn everything, practice correctly, take CATs, review and fix mistakes.

Do you tend to learn best with an instructor or when you're studying on your own?
