I was researching information about laptops, today, and ended up spending about 6 hours on research/building/buying my machine. I am curious to find out what machines others bought, for what reason(s), and how/where you researched the information. Hopefully this will come of use to others.
By the way, I bought the Inspiron 13 from Dell. There were other similar models from Samsung, Toshiba, and Lenovo, but none could beat Dell on price.

I used a Samsung UMPC through business school (purchased Jan 2007). It is a very small touchscreen/tablet. This was a perfect choice for me because I would find a few minutes here or there to do homework, and I could always have my laptop with me by having such a portable laptop.
Now that it is time for a new machine, I'm thinking of one of the very basic portable laptops from Costco. They are about $500, run XP, and should work great for the kinds of things you do in business school. You don't need a fancy processor for spreadsheets, reports, and email.
