Judge Forer recognizes that the American judicial system provides more safeguards for accused persons than does the legal system of any other country, but she believes there is a great disparity between the systems of justice accorded rich and poor.

(A) for accused persons than does the legal system of any other country
(B) to accused persons as the legal system of any country
(C) for accused persons as the legal system of any country
(D) to accused persons as the legal system of any other country
(E) for accused persons than the legal system of any country

OA:A

i picked E because i thought the verb after "than" -DOES is not required.

Could anybody explain when a verb after " more than", " asmuchas" and the like is redundant and when it is required ??

thankyou,

I never heard of any such rule. However, I can help you to understand the use of "does" in current context. Here, we are comparing the safegaurds provided by the American judicial system to those by judicial systems of any other countries.

(E) for accused persons than the legal system of any country
The option has two faults.
1. Whenever we compare an element of a group with rest of the elements in the group, we must use "any other." Hence, "any other country" is correct.
2. "Does" is required for correct comparison - the safegaurds provided by the American judicial system to those by judicial systems of any other countries.
