Help needed -- Targetting 740+

by arunmmw » Sat May 17, 2008 7:40 pm
Dear All

First of all, thanks for sharing your gmat stratergy with everyone, it really helped many of us. I am in need of your help to score 740+. My gmat prep stratergy is as below.

I have completed Mahattan books, OG 10 verbal, OG 11 verbal.
Partially completed Kaplan books.
Studied ARCO Master the Gmat 2007 book, Gmat Nova.
700 q's in 1000 SC's, 50 RC q's in 3000 RC's.

I have created my own verbal notes. I have also recorded audio on erin's verbal notes and few other notes that i have collected in forums and i listen while i ride to/from office.

I have also done with my 2 month weekend class room study here in India, chennai.

Despite all these effort, i scored 620 in my first manhattan test and 560 in kaplan verbal test. Last night i tried power prep and scored 650, i am shattered by this score. I heard powerprep is easier than gmat prep, so my current level of scoring is close to 650. My exam is on 20th June, i have planned a 2 weeks vacation for my studies. After rejecting lot of internation offers and international trips these months for my gmat preparation, now its really disturbing me.

I couldnt really find my weak area in verbal because sometimes i score 80-90% in SC or in RC or in CR, and sometimes i score 50% in all these. I am doing fairly good in math.

I am confused, Should i continue with this rigorous study or can i convince myself with a score close to 700 in my real exam. Please advice.

Thanks.
Regards
Arun

Arun

I would definitely encourage you to take action rather than experimenting with the test. I would like to suggest the following:

a) The OG Review 11 is a must. I do not see it in your list of books. I think you might have time to read through that book

b) You should definitely try your hands on GMAT prep, the best test available for benchmarking (though not 100% accurate). I would suggest that you take a test now and see where you stand. Indetify the areas where you make mistakes and concentrate on them

c) Regarding the inconsistency in you performance, there could be many reasons. First you have been trying tests from different sources which is making the test results not worthy of comparison. Second you may be having issues with concentration/stamina for the entire tests. (assuming all your tests were full length and timed tests)

You may also try MGMAT online tests. I think they have six tests and I found them very useful. Atleast you will have six comparable tests to see where your performance is heading to.

Wish you good luck and do get back to us if you have additional questions.
