Question abot the Math part

by Mustika » Tue Aug 24, 2010 3:07 pm
Hi I have a general question about the math part. In the official guide it says that 37 questions are quantitative, including both problem solving and data sufficiency questions.

I am really quick with the data sufficiency problems but a lot slower with the problem solving ones. So for time management I am wondering if

1. Is the amount of problem solving to data sufficiency problems about equal?

2. Are the different types of questions asked after each other? So e.g. first 10 problem solving questions and then the rest data sufficiency, or are they mixed randomly.

Thanks,

Kai

No ... Guidance is that roughly 1/3rd of the 37 problems would be DS. But, a friend who took the test last week 'thinks' he got more than 16 questions of DS.

Mixed randomly.

Hope this helps. Thanks.

I've heard exactly the same as Mustika - the quant section used to be fixed at 15 DS and 22 PS, but we've heard from people over the last year or two seeing half or even slightly more DS questions, so be prepared to see as many as 20 (but as few as 15).

They'll come mixed up "randomly" (not exactly random for the computer, which obviously uses logic to dispense the questions, but random to you).

The good news is that, if you're pretty quick with DS questions (which is great - I think that can be a huge advantage) then you'll end up with sufficient extra time for the PS questions. And if you get near question 30 or so and realize that you're a little behind your pace, knowing that a PS question might take you 3 minutes whereas the next DS question may only take a minute, strategically you may want to burn a guess early (around question 30 or so) on a tough-looking PS question so that you have ample time to attack the remaining DS problems. I like the way you're thinking about pacing strategy...
