I too selected C as my answer, but the OA is given as E.

The 2 statements will never contracdict each other i.e they will have something in common
x>-4 and x>5 is the common thing between stmt I and II and they dont contardict i.e something can be greater than -4 and 5 at the same time.
Probably we can request Ian/Stuart to clarify the C or E part for us.
