by schumi_gmat » Thu Oct 16, 2008 5:04 pm
A Swiss government panel recommended that the country sell about half its gold reserves and this raised fears of other countries that do the same and inundate the market.
A. reserves and this raised fears of other countries that
B. reserves, which, as a result, raised fears of other countries that
C. reserves; as a result, they feared that other countries would
D. reserves, with fears raised that other countries would
E. reserves, raising fears that other countries would

OA E
I selected E over C because C was wordy beccause of "as a result"
IS my explanation correct?

E for me too. They have no refrent here. If it is saying to panel, then as panel opinion is unianimous, singular pronoun should be used not plural
So.IMO E.

E
A. Pronoun ref error "This"
B Wrong usage of "which"
C. Same as A " They"
D. Raised is in past tense. But sentence is in present
E. Correct

One of the reason I selected "E" was the clause
"raising fears that other countries would"
this is an adverbial clause modifying entire preceding clause

E should be the answer...

E shows the cause and effect relationship....

Can someone please tell why D is wrong....to me the sentence looks to be in past tense....IMO recommended is simple past.

D. reserves, with fears raised that other countries would
look at the sentence construction.

Which one is correct

Raised fears or fears raised :D
