(1) x > y + 4
(2) -5x <14y> a, then 3/7 has to be greater than a ..

So if 1*x is > a then 3/7*x has to be greater than a ..

the first choice says x>y .. so as explained 3/7*x has to be > y .. hence the answer D ..

From stem we need to find is x > 7/3y

From stmt 1 X > y + 4

Pick some numbers to verify ..say
x y = 6,1 or x y = 5 , -2 Conditions holds true Hence knock of BCE left with AD

From stmt 2 is given that x > 14/5y hence it has to > 7/3y

Hence Both are sufficient Hence D

There does not seem to be a algebraic solution over here, smart substitution is the way forward... while subbing make sure you are covering all possibilities ...
