GMAT Score 600

by vrgopi » Wed Jun 09, 2010 6:25 am
Hi,

First, I want to thank the community for all the insight you have provided.

I did not fare well in the test though. I knew my verbal was not great (i am a non-native speaker though living in the US for the past 15 years), but never expected to get this low in verbal. I found the verbal too tough on the actual test. Dont know what to do from this point on. Any ideas are appreciated.

03/15/10 - GmatPrep 1 ------------------------590
05/02/10 - MGMAT 1- Q47 V29 620
05/21/10 - GmatPrep 1 (retake) - Q48 V37 690
05/23/10 - MGMAT 2- Q44 V31 610
05/26/10 - Knewton - Q42 V35 620
05/29/10 - MGMAT 3- Q45 V32 650
05/30/10 - GmatPrep 2 - Q50 V32 690

Final GMAT
06/03/10 600 (Q 50, V21, AWA 5.0)

I used the OG, MGMAT Guides for SC and CR, and BTG flashcards in my prep. I guess my weakness is RC and CR mainly long passages. Based on my prep, i had expected to score 30 - 32 in verbal, but on the real deal, i had issues with SC, RC and CR. I was unsure of the answers - so took more time on the SC, also got scared that i was not pacing myself well enough. RC was a particular pain point, i firmly believe it had a lot to do with the final score in my case.

Identify your weakness and work on them. You should get a clear idea where your weaknesses are by working through the OG. Be critical of your understanding, pretend as if you are your own boss and critique harshly of your own work.

Fear can do a lot of damage when you take the test, especially on the reading comprehension section because people tend to back-skip or read the same thing over and over when they're afraid they aren't going to understand everything. Make sure that you train yourself to read through an entire thought without going backwards and starting it again. Confidence is key.
