OG 13 difficulty level

by sohailmbaprep » Mon Sep 17, 2012 4:55 am
1) Last 20 questions of each section in OG13 falls in what category ?? I mean is it at the level of
680+ score.
2) Also want to know ,does the OG13 book have some easy questions in the last 20-25 questions of each section. While solving OG, i found out that difficulty level kept increasing but encountered few easy questions towards the end of section.

1) The questions in the OG13 are arranged in order of difficulty. So, the last 20 questions are upper-end questions. What's their exactly difficulty rating? Who knows. In "total score" lingo, it seems reasonable to say that they're 700+ questions.

2) This is understandable, since we can't expect individual test-takers to have identical skill sets. One student may be a pro with all geometry questions yet struggle with the concept of standard deviation. Another student may be a pro with all standard deviation questions yet struggle with anything related to geometry. As such, these two students will have different interpretations of the difficulty level's of individual questions.

Cheers,
Brent

I agree with what Brent says above - questions which are easy for one test taker may be hard for another. But I think there are other factors at work, and I'd only take the position of questions in the OG as a kind of very rough estimate of their difficulty. I don't think, for example, that anyone could reasonably argue that Q220 in OG13 (PS section) is harder than Q199, even if Q220 comes later in the book. In fact, I can't really see how Q220 can even be a 500-level question, while I think Q199 is one that many 750-level test takers would find challenging.

The questions in OG13 come from all kinds of different periods in the GMAT's history; some OG questions are more than a decade old, and some are quite recent. The GMAT has gotten a lot harder over the last ten years - a 700-level question now is much harder, mathematically speaking, than a 700-level question from 20 years ago. I very often find the older questions in OG13 (questions like Q220) are placed too late in the book compared to their difficulty level for the average test taker, and the questions which have been recently added (questions like Q199) are often too early in the book.

Thanks Ian and Brent,

Good part to know for me is that OG13 has some 700+ questions in it.
I thought I will miss these kind of questions. Needed to practise some 700+ questions
