The GMAT hit me hard

by chaitanyareddy » Tue Nov 16, 2010 11:36 am
Hi,

Well its a sad story to share... First attempt got a 620( 49Q + 25V). was kind of happy as haven't prepared that hard. But yes the 620 was not some fluke. Finally prepared really hard , did power prep and Barron's tests , many offline tests , 800score.com sectional tests, took notes blah blah.

In word , struggled really hard to crack the 700+ score.

However I ended up with 570 (49Q + 20V) :( . Believe me I was shattered . Couldnt believe my eyes for a few seconds.

Anyway I have made up my mind that I would go ahead applying with my first score. However , when I checked in the mba.com site , it says that both my scores, first one and second one will be reported to these schools..

My scenario is like :

I took the exam for the first time and reported the scores to schools A, B , C , D and E(set 1) .
I took the exam second time and reported the scores to F , G , H , I and J ( set 2 ).

However , I scored less second time and would like to report my first score to the second set of schools.

Could you please let me know whether I need to do additional score reporting or will the first test scores be communicated to the second set of schools , along with the second score.

With a 620 score ( 49Q + 25V + 4.5 AWA) and a Toefl iBt of 98/120 and 3+ years of work experience , in one of the biggest software gaints in India , I am looking at the following universities .

Texas Christian university M.J. Neeley School of Business
University of Minnesota - College park Robert H smith School of business
University of Georgia Terry college of Business
The university of North Carolina at Chapel Hill - Kenan-Flagler Business School
The University of Texas at Dallas School of management.
apply
Please let me know the chances of getting into these universities. and whether I need to additionally .

your quant skills look in tip top shape!...I would have recommended that you had tried for the second intake only after you were witnessing several jumps in verbal, preferably in mid 30's

But anyhow, I think you have the right to report only those scores that you want the adcomms to see. (they ask which one you want to represent).

Thank you.. Yeah I took the second time after I was confident abt verbal. I scored between 30 to 38 on all the practice test. On the OG books , my accuracy was nearly 70 to 80 percent. Something has gone haywire. I am not sure what . :)

But my actual doubt is do I need to/ is there a way to report my first time scores explicitly to the adcoms . Because , when I gave the exam for the first time , I was not pretty sure about the schools. Second time I was sure about which schools I wanna be in , but the exam got screwed up. So I want my scores of first attempt to be reported to those schools which I chose at the second attempt.

So DO I need to explicitly report my first time scores? If Yes, please let me know HOW?

And thanks for wishing me good luck. :)

GMAC actually send your scores in all tests to the indicated schools with an additional fee of 20$ per notification.(This forwarding service is apart from the list you have selected before the exam). The list contains the scores of upto 4 'recent' tests that you have taken. From there on, it is up to you to indicate the school that which scores you actually want to be reported to the adcoms. (adcoms are different from the admission representatives that are helping in sorting your application to be finally presented to adcom).
