570 Q31/V37 on the GMAT

by chicki08 » Sat Jan 26, 2013 6:54 pm
I took the GMAT a few weeks ago and scored 570; Q31/V37.

I took the GMAT to apply for MPH and MHA programs because I wanted to keep the option of a future MBA open. Obviously if I choose to pursue an MBA I'll have to retake, but how will this affect my application for MPH or MHA?

Just some thoughts, please!

Chicki -- You ask a question that could take one in many different directions ... I'll lay out some of the road-choices after this fork in the road; you tell me which is most appropriate.

1. Doesn't matter -- you decide to submit a different standardized test for application (can't believe that there is any MPH and/or MHA program that would 'require' GMAT -- although I'm not going to bet money on it.)

2. Plan to take GMAT again and improve score -- https://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/index ... ent-wrong/

3. Apply to b-school -- make sure the schools you'd be interested in would accept a score in that range.

4. Other

Thoughts?

Most MPH programs require the GRE, but some accept the GMAT/MCAT/DAT/LSAT etc. I chose the GMAT. I can understand that a GMAT score of that standing can affect matriculation to a top MBA school, but will it have as significant a bearing on matriculation to an MPH or MHA program?

Hey Chicki,

The safest thing would be to talk to the admissions department of the school(s) you're applying to, or else see if their literature says anything about average score of incoming students. Don't try to guess this, or average out from other schools. The safest bet is to have a hard number to shoot for. Maybe you already have it!

Good question, and honestly, one that it probably beyond the pay-grade of almost anyone on this board. My gut says, yes, it probably will, but I echo Tommy's point above -- I'd suggest finding resources (be they third-party and/or school-based) to give you a much more informed answer.

Good luck on your journey!!
