A 660 might not be a score some consider as "beating the GMAT," but to me, it is.
I studied less than three weeks for my first attempt because of a last minute decision to apply for MBA programs. I had not even considered getting my MBA right after graduating with my undergraduate degree, but after much research decided it was the correct path for me. I first studied with the Official GMAT Guide, the free GMATPrep CATs, and GMATPrepNow. The GMAT Prep program may work for some, but it did not work for me. The free practice tests were no where near my actual score. I got a 650 on my last practice exam, so you can imagine my disappointment when I scored a 520 on the actual. The GMATPrepNow program only covered basic concepts that may have given me a decent foundation, but did not seem to help that much in the end.
I really did not have time to retake before application deadlines. I am currently a full time student and the President of two different organizations. However, I am not one to give up easily. I used the Knewton course to study for my second try. I found the CATs to be much more consistent, and the lessons were extremely effective. I did not even complete the course and increased my score by 140 points in just over a month of studying.
It was extremely stressful to balance studying for school and studying for the GMAT. I ended up having a test yesterday evening when I should have been resting. It also turned out to be the most ridiculous test I have ever taken, as the professor did not even realize it would take an hour or two more than the class period allowed. I was afraid the huge amount of stress I had gone through the day before my second attempt would ruin my score, but fortunately I was wrong.
Quant is what I needed the most improvement in, which seems to be uncommon. My first breakdown was 29Q and 33V. I took it for the second time just this morning and got a 40-40 split. I could not be happier.
I recommend Knewton to anyone who feels like they are too busy to study for the GMAT. Knewton makes it easy, and applicable. I got a discount by getting it through the beatthegmat website. I just wanted to share my story because I loved reading these throughout my studying.
