Hello Folks. This is my first post to the forum and I want to thank all the contributors and moderator(s). If not for this forum, I would not have realized my potential. I scored 650 today and am satisfied for now.
When I started to think about pursuing MBA (part-time), my aim was to get somewhere around 600 and given my experience of about 12 years and decent GPA, I was confident of getting into some "decent" school, which is all I aimed for when I started with. My first score, without any preparation, in a Kaplan practice test was 580. Though I knew am capable of hitting more, I didnt give a damn. But after I started to read posts in this forum, I felt motivated to work and aim for my full potential score. Thanks again!!
I spent about 4 months, not everyday, for preparation. (I attribute this score to my last 3 weeks' preparation, though. why? will explain little later). I started with Kaplan math and verbal for basics. Then moved onto Manhattan Gmat Series about a month ago. Practiced on questions from OG 12 edition. Scores on 2 GMAT prep tests and 6 Manhattan tests are good indicators of where you stand vis-a-vis actual GMAT (mine ranged from 600-650; 630 on mgmat being the last one 2 days before actual GMAT).
Last 3 weeks were best for me after I made changes to the way I prepared not in terms of strategies, but making following adjustments, which turned out to be as important:
1. Started studying and taking tests in a silent environment. (Earlier I prepared in bookshops/libraries and used to think if i prepare in a noisy environment, a silent environment during actual test will be a bonus, but that is not true)
2. Realized how the chair and desk I was preparing on, were affecting my concentration, only after purchasing a new chair/table during holiday sales. This unexpectedly turned out to be what I badly needed and improved my learning and thereby confidence.
Both these adjustments improved my concentration and thereby learning and retention power. Maybe if I made these earlier, I would have saved myself from a lot of frustration and would have ended up with even higher score, but that is for next time if I plan to attempt again.
Finally, I know this is not a great score, but the purpose of this post is to thank the forum and to share the above two points which made a lot of difference to me.
Would be glad to answer any questions.
Also, can someone please suggest the "Best" US schools in which I stand a chance for part-time MBA admission, with 650? (not executive or online MBAs)
