The analyst suggested that traders pay more attention to a broader measure of the money supply, known as M2, but still not to ignore standard indicators.

A)
B) and not to ignore any longer
C) but that they still not ignore
D) and that they continue not to ignore
E) but they should still not ignore

Should be C, use "but" to show contrast, subjunctive(suggest) and parallelism (pay, ignore)

Why not A, which stands firm on all above mentioned criterias.

Why we need 'that' and 'they'?

I can't be A
Bcoz we don't know whether M2/Traders should not ignore standard indicator.
Also, as it was traders suggestion that....,but that...
the part after but and after suggestion should be parallel.

IMO C

The analyst suggested that traders pay ..., but still not to ignore standard indicators.

Here bold words are parallel. If you use "to" then it will be an infinitive. You must have both infinitives or none when you are testing for parallelism.

So can we have both infinitives here? No. Because "suggested" will force command subjunctive and hence, we cannot use an infinitive or any other forms of verb.

I could dig an explanation from Bob on this, if you want to refer more:

Hope this "y"elps :)

Could someone explain why 'D' is wrong?

I feel 'suggested that traders pay more attention to ..' is parallel to 'and that they continue not to ignore ..'

Also, how to be sure that the given sentence demands a contrast? (as in C)

Please explain

D seems to be the correct ans here as it uses the correct parallelism marker "suggested that" --"and that".

The OA is C. However, this is certainly a very confusing problem, so I have sent a PM to Stacey. Let's hope that she will reply back.

Hi, guys, just got back from vacation and got your PM!

Unfortunately, I can't actually respond to this one. A while back, Kaplan's legal department formally asked us not to host or comment on any Kaplan problems on our own forums, and we were advised to avoid doing the same on any other forums / public venues as well. So, I can't comment. :(
Please note: I do not use the Private Messaging system! I will not see any PMs that you send to me!!

Karmyogi,
A lacks subject, its a sentence fragment. See it this way:
The analyst suggested that traders do X but Y.

X:traders pay more attention to a broader measure of the money supply,,

Y: still not to ignore standard indicators.

Here the two subordinate clauses should have parallel subject and form, that requires us too duplicate that and they.

The analyst suggested that traders do X but that they Y.

Now Y is complete clause and run on sentence as created in option A is resolved.

After going through all the comments again, I guess, I got the answer. In the sentence, there are many prospect nouns before "ignore standard indicators," making it difficult to say who should not ignore. Pronoun 'they" clearly refers back to traders, as it's the only plural noun. Now if we place "they" then the clause after 'but' needs a 'that' to make it parallel with the previous clause. Hence, C.

Guys feel free to correct me.

Thanks Maihuna, enniguy and others.
