Help Needed to Develop Study Plan

Hi,

I am in the early stages of prepping for the GMAT. So far I have purchased the Official GMAT Guide and Manhattan Prep GMAT Strategy Guide Set. I am aiming for a score between 550-650 with 3-4 months of studying or more if needed. I know this score is attainable with a solid study plan and materials. All input is appreciated.

Hi Laquannis,

Since you are just starting out on your GMAT journey, it is a good idea to first familiarize yourself with the GMAT exam and then take an MBA.com practice exam. The results of that exam will provide an accurate depiction of what to expect on the GMAT as well as a baseline GMAT score. Once we have an idea of your current quant and verbal scores, I can provide some more tailored advice. With that said, I have a few questions:

1) How many hours a day can you study for the GMAT during the next 3 to 4 months?

2) What deadlines are you targeting?

3) Do you plan to use only your current study materials, or are you also considering other materials besides your GMAT prep books?

Once you take your practice exam, feel free to report back here with the results, or you can send them to me directly and I'd be happy to help.

Hi Laquannis,

Since it sounds like you're just beginning your studies, then it would be a good idea to take a FULL-LENGTH practice CAT Test; you can download 2 for free from www.mba.com (and they come with some additional practice materials). If you want to do a little studying first, so that you can familiarize yourself with the basic content and question types, then that's okay - but you shouldn't wait too long to take that initial CAT. That score will give us a good sense of your natural strengths and weaknesses and will help provide a basis for comparison as you continue to study. A FULL CAT takes about 4 hours to complete, so make sure that you've set aside enough time to take it in one sitting. Once you have those scores, you should report back here and we can come up with a study plan.

You've defined some of your plan already, which is good. I'd like to know a bit more about your timeline and goals:
1) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
2) What Schools are you planning to apply to?
