Let P be the price of the book
reduced price = P- P(1/3)
=P * ( 1-1/3 )
= P ( 2/3 )

therefore P= (3/2) reduced price.

...when u reduce a qty by 1/3 ... what is left is 2/3 of the original qty...

so.. let x be the original price ... therefore 2/3 x = b... therefore x = 3b/2... E..

The price of a book, after it was reduced by 1/3, is B dollars. What was the price of the book, in dollars, before the reduction?

a. 2b/3
b. 3b/4
c. 6b/5
d. 4b/3
e. 3b/2

x - 1/3 x = b

2/3x = b

Therefore x = 3b/2

Let the initial price of the book $x
If we reduce x by $$\frac{1}{3}$$
x- $$\frac{1}{3x}$$
we have $$\frac{2}{3}$$ of x left
i.e
$$\frac{2}{3}$$ of x = $B
$$\frac{2x}{3}$$ = B
2x =3B
x = $$\frac{3B}{2}$$
i.e the price of the book before the reduction is $$\frac{3B}{2}$$ .

We can create the equation:

D * 2/3 = B

2D = 3B

D = 3B/2
