Should you name drop?

by LMK27 » Wed Dec 08, 2010 9:01 pm
When writing essays for b-school, should you include the name of the admission person you spoke with during an information session visit?

I recently visited 2 schools for a quick 1.5 hour info session. I spoke with someone from adcom for no more than 8 minutes, just asking general questions. Is it smart to mention their name? Would it show interest in the school?

Appreciate any feedback!

I think if you can weave the name into your essays (i.e. not name drop for the sake of name dropping) it shows you actually went and did research about the school and are thus interested.

If won't hurt you (unless you spell that persons name wrong or that person actually doesnt work at the school), but it won't make your application stand out either. It might add like 0.5% positive points to your profile.
