people,

i seem to do well on the verbal side, but have been struggling with getting more of the 600+ bin questions correct on the MGMAT online CATs. due to this my quant score lags in the 36-41 range, whereas my verbal is consistently in the 39-43 range.

i have worked the OG, the MGMAT books and have gone through Kaplan 800. timing is not an issue much, but i have noticed it takes me time to understand how to approach a problem at times, and then there are times where i get stuck on the calculation side. i tend to find some questions easily doable when i see the solution.

so if you have any ideas of getting more of thr 600+bin questions correct that would be appreciated as i inetnd to take the real deal on sep 29. please do let me know if you need more details to help me.

EDIT - my hit rate on the CAT PS as well as DS is around 50% each.

I envy your Verbal powers! 8)

Lots of people are trying to run before they learn how to walk. Having said that, I believe that learning the very basic fundamentals of math is the key for success. Don't spend time with tricks, shortcuts or some silver bullets. Once you ace the basics - you will find yourself doing better at math. Manhattan GMAT math series are great, even for beginners. If you have solved the OG problems, look for the explanations and find out:

+ how aurthor thinks
+ how he solves
+ his methods

There are not many things you can learn from the wrong answer choices but you can get a lot of take-aways with you when you learn different way of thinking and solving a problem.

Also if you keep a log - try to see what your common mistakes are and turn your weaknesses into your powers.

You can also check BTG forum or gmatclub forum and read about math discussions - There are amazing people you can learn from.

Good luck.

emrahercan,

thank you, but i wish i was doing better on the quant instead of verbal, as the b schools seem to value that more. i guess i am not an excellent test-taker, as i come from a finance/accounting background. i guess i let excel do too much work for me

true, MGMAT series books were awesome for bringing my fundamentals up-to-speed. that is one reason why i am surprised at my MGMAT CAT Quant scores as i thought i had my fundas up-to-par by using these MGMAT books.

i'm taking the test for the second time, and have been active on BTG. your error log, and answer takeaways idea sounds good, i will try that to see what works.

i'm shooting to get as close to a 700 as possible so if i can bring up my quant to a 44 i'll be better than golden! thanks again!
