Economist: In the interaction between producers and consumers, the only obligation that all parties have to act in the best interests of their own side. And distribution of information about product defects is in the best interests of the consumer, So consumers are always obligated to report product defects they discover, while producers are never obligated to reveal them.

Which one of the following is an assumption required by the economist's argument?
A. It is never in the best interests of producers for a producer to reveal a product defect.
B. No one expects producers to act in a manner counter to their own best interests.
C. Any product defect is likely to be discovered by consumer
D. A product defect is more likely to be discovered by a consumer than by a producer
E. The best interests of consumers never coincide with the best interests of producers

OA is
A
. It's ok but what is wrong in option B

IMO B is not consistent with the passage. The passage is a statement of one economist's opinion. Option B makes brings "no one" in to the picture, which is outside the scope of his written opinion. The passage gives no indication that he is making assumptions based on external expectations.

B. No one expects producers to act in a manner counter to their own best interests.

Let I try to negate B. "No one" become "someone"

Someone expects producers to act in a manner counter to their own best interests => does not affect anything to the argument.

OA is not B. And just friendly piece of advice... I think you're trying too hard to treat verbal questions as quant questions with all this negate strategy stuff. Sure that stuff might be useful at times, but in general, CR seems to me to be a lot more about careful reading and understanding.

Just my opinion, for whatever it's worth.

But option A says It is never in the best interest......
Isn't it too extreme?

If you read carefully my post, you will see that I try to prove choice B is incorrect. Definitely choice B is not the correct one. I just helped thread making guy find why choice B is incorrect. :D
