scoring

by JGaynor » Sun Apr 04, 2010 1:43 pm
Hey everyone,

I took a gmatprep yesterday and the second one today...

yesterday I scored a 550 (Q35, V30) and today a 530 (Q36,V27)

The first test I missed 20 in the Quantitative section and today I missed 16- but only improving 1 point...and I missed 14 on the Verbal in the first test and missed 17 today, but my Verbal score decreased 3 points....

Is there a specific reason for the minimal increase by answering 4 more questions correctly but decreasing 3 points for answering 3 more questions incorrectly??

Any insight will be appreciated!

Thank you!

Scoring algorithm is very complex and nobody except GMAC folks knows the actual scoring algorithm. It all depends on various factors. One such factor is the difficulty level of the question. If you miss a difficult question, then the score doesn't drop significantly.
