When to take GMATPrep practice tests

I just started my GMAT studying about two weeks ago and am planning to take it in about 3 months.

My understanding is that I should take one of the GMATPrep practice tests about now (the start of my test prep), and then I should take test #2 prior to taking the actual test. Is this correct?

I'm eager to take a test now and find out where I "stand." Thanks.

Hi modesto2,

It would be a good idea to take a test now so you can get a good sense of where you stand. It's important to see what material is going to need the most attention and prioritize your next 12 weeks up to the big day. We've found the GMATPrep software from MBA.com to be (understandably) pretty accurate for your scoring, so if you'd like to save both of those resources, you could use the free CAT in our Knewton trial to serve the purpose of diagnosing your current status.

If you have two tests for later in the game then, I'd take one maybe 3 weeks out and another 10 days out -- that's so you focus on material for the time being, but then leave yourself enough time after those tests to really study every question and answer before test day.

There's a thousand ways to study for this test, the biggest key is to just make sure you have a study plan that makes sense for you and stick to it. Let us know if you have more questions!
