Constructed In the late 1950s by various federal and state transportation agencies, the Massachusetts Turnpike uses a series of tollbooths for collecting revenue to fund construction and maintenance projects.

A. for collecting revenue to fund construction and maintenance projects

B. to collect revenue to fund construction and maintenance projects

C. to collect revenue for the funding of projects of construction and maintenance

D. that collects revenue to fund projects of construction and maintenance

E. that collects revenue for the funding of construction and maintenance projects.

A purpose is best illustrated using an infinitve, to+verb . So if there is not other reason one can choose an infinitive construction. Besides the that construction in D and E is simply wrong.

Out of B and C smilarly B concisely explain the same concept. SO I will pick B.

I agree with maihuna,

Infinitive should be used to state purpose or if the result of the action was intentional and Op B correctly uses that....Op C is too wordy...
