is that sentence right?

had gotten up----past perfect
was brushing----past continous
phone rang---past tense

Basic rule: when a sentence contains past perfect tense then the latter part of the sentence must be in simple past.But i could see past continous(was brushing) as well.

the sentence above is correct.
here its telling us about the person what she was doing at that time when the phone rang.
so i think its correct..
