A cool 710 :)

by katb007 » Sun Dec 05, 2010 3:03 pm
I studied for 2 months on and off, starting from October 2010. Gave gmat on 4 th december 2010 and scored a cool 710. My study was not planned, no strategies involved. Didint follow any conventional preparation method.
First I went through OG 11 and got aquainted with GMAT pattern. I was good in maths but had difficulty with verbal section ( common with Indians). Once I knew what my weaknesses are I started working on them.
Started solving as many SC, DS problems as I ccould.

My first gmat prep-I score was 560 quite disappointing. I could not complete quant section in time . same with verb section. I realised I needed to improve my pacing. I divided 75 minutes into 3 sections. Placed timer at 55 min, 35 min and 15 min. I tried to solve min 10 qs in 20 min. That helped a lot.
My next weakness was DS. Two things helped.
1) Apply AD or BCE method.
2) Never carry information from first stmt to second.
I immediately saw improvement in my score.

Next gmat prep-II my score was 680. I took this gmatprep a week before my exam date.
But I wanted to cross the 700 barrier. Last week just prior to exam , I didnt do much. Just relaxed and tried to go through SC and DS problems and understand what I was doing wrong. CR and RC didnt follow any strategy just trusted my reasoning. Same with AWA, didnt do much.
With this kind of preparation I was expecting score at 650 level but was surprised to see 710. ..but what you know..Never underestimate yourself :)
