Just took the GMAT this past weekend...
I took it for the first time two years ago and scored a 600. After that I realized that I focused too much on quantity of questions instead of analyzing my weak areas. I took the knewton course a few months after and that really helped with strategy and basic concepts. Unfortunately I waited until now to retake the GMAT so I'm not sure how much of the knewton course I retained. 2 months prior to my 2nd GMAT, I started to review the Manhattan GMAT books. Those were excellent! I also had the online account so I took a practice test every weekend and really got to understand what my weak areas were. I used the books to study my weak areas and did problems to further strengthen my strong areas. Don't focus too much on the essay and IR sections. Those are not important. I would say use the manhattan GMAT question banks and tests to understand your strengths and weaknesses!
