help please

by poseidon344 » Wed Oct 29, 2008 8:36 am
I need advice. I have been preparing for atleast 5 months now with dedication of daily spending 2 or three hours on the test and longer tretch of 12 hours on my days off. I had the deliberation phobia as I read your advice given on the forum to someone. My problem is execution during test time. My last gmat was 31 days ago with quant 39 and verbal tanked to 25. I was too tired and exhausted by the time I got to verbal and in defense three hours of sleep the night before. I signed up with mgmat test with a tutor recomendation. My quant score has been on a good rested day 39-44 and verbal again is not working out. I can't seem to remain focus after quant to get to verbal. It is very frustratiing and I am not sure what to do. Another thing is, I recently use sc1000 file for sentence correction and lsat book for verbal Accuracy rate over 80%. I practice my quant and verbal on alternate days and block of 75 minutes to build stamina. How can I be better prepared for the retest and are you a tutor that would consider being avail incase I need help via skype. My last gmat prep score was 710, but that is biase since I have taken prep atleast 4 times. MGMAT score is 580. Quant 42-44 but verbal tanks. I am planning to take one more test. I haven't done the explanations for mgmat at my tutor recomendation he says they are the last priority at this point. If you would kindly give me advice. thanks

Well, for one thing - I'd can those 12 hour study days. There's no way that you can do productive studying after more than a couple hours. Take a day off and rest - 3 hours per day x 6 days per week is usually more than enough studying for most people. Maybe this alone will help you keep your mind fresh for practice tests.

Speaking of practice tests, if your issue is lack of stamina, the only way to improve is to practice. Take a lot of practice tests - including the essays - to get used to the mental abuse that the GMAT throws at you. Even after teaching GMAT for over three years and taking the real exam six times, I'm still pretty exhausted by about halfway through the verbal section. The only way to improve is to get used to intense thought for long periods of time.

Hope this helps!

Hi all,
I had just posted about lack of stamina throughout the test. Jim one of the instructors was kind enough to recomend that I should take full lenth practice tests. Just wanted to knonw how many per week, right now it is once a week from mgmat and the score is stuck at 580. Quant rolling between 41-44 and verbal is just tansking at 25 0r 26. First question, is how do I attack verbal?. sc1000 file of sentence correction shows atleast 80% accuracy timed practice, lsat questions show 80% accuracy timed practice and reading comp is 60%-70% accuracy. Without losing my current knowledge of quant and being too foucus on one part of the test how can I increase my current skills and build stamina...Ex: should i go over the tests questions of mgmat in detail, stacy laid out a plan suggesting 10 minutes to go-over the problem in detail which sounds good I was just focsuing on content material covering everything.. and same with sentence correction...thanks
