Hi I know this is probably a really simple question but I think I am missing this fundamental concept.

When you square a binomial that has a root over one variable, how does it factor?

In this example I understand the root of the 3-2x but when you square the second part how do you get

2x+2~2x+1?


I appreciate any response.

[√(2x) + 1)]² = [√(2x) + 1)][√(2x) + 1)]
Now multiply each term using the FOIL method,
= (√2x * √2x ) + (√2x * 1) + (1 * √2x ) + (1 * 1)
= 2x + √2x + √2x + 1
= 2x + 2√2x + 1

(a+b)^2 = a^2+2ab+b^2
