Going from a 660 to a 730 in record time!

Hi,

I have been a member of this forum for a few months, I used it regularly during my preparation, and although this is my first post, I consider this site to be one of the most invaluable resources when it comes to preparing for the GMAT.

After about 4 months of study, maybe 2 hours on weekdays and 8 hours over the weekend, I took the test. My score was 660! I was devastated! I remember getting home after the test and feeling sick and depressed over the whole thing. It was the 30th on November and my applications were due the first week of January. This didn´t leave me much room for a retake. To top it all off, all of the test centers in Colombia decided to close their doors from the 15th of December until the 15th of January! I was crushed.

After much debate, I decided to buy a plane ticket to the US and take my chances finding a test center that would administer the exam on the 4th of January. I finally found a place in Fort Lauderdale, and scheduled my appointment. It was a very hectic month and I had a lot trouble finding time to study in order to increase my score.

I decided that I would concentrate on being calm during the exam. I figured I had studied for long enough, and since I wasn´t getting any work done, I might as well focus my energy on feeling calm during the exam and visualize a good score. On the 4th of January, I arrived at the test center feeling great, during the test I felt calm and felt as if I could actually work the problems without feeling suffocated by the pressure.

When I clicked the button to see my score, I nearly jumped out off my seat when I saw the results, (730 V44 Q47). I honestly cannot remember feeling as relieved about anything in my life! Woooooohooo!

So to anyone going through a similar situation: Try to relax, it may be all it takes.

Hi,
Congrats!!
Can you please explain what did you do differently in one month that you did not do in 4 months. I am in same situation. I am scoring 640(Q 48, V 28) rightnow and my test date in after one month. I have studied all the concepts but I am not sure whether 1 month is sufficeint for practice or not. How much practice should I do daily and in one month total.

Thanks

I did something similar minus a trip to another country. I took the GMAT my first time and got a 680 (Q45, v38). 30 days later (to squeeze it in before thanksgiving) I took it again and got a 730, but with a Q47 and V42, not sure how we both had a 730 when my V was 2 points lower. poonammarwah, I stuck to the same study schedule as I had before my first exam. Since I was already pretty prepared for the first test and just had a bad day, sticking to the same schedule allowed me to focus on very specific areas which i think was the difference.
