Hey,congrats on that great score.V44 is just amazing :-)
Im planning to appear in August.I have GMATPREP docs for quant and verbal.Do you think i should solve those questions from the document or keep appearing for gmatprep so that i get a hang of questions.

Kalaketeenga Sabari :)

Please share what exactly you did in the study sessions for Quant and Verbal. Basically what i am asking is how u studied for each section.
Did you review or redo the wrong problems?
Did you practice quant and verbal the same day or allocated n days for quant and another n days for verbal?

The above info will be really helpful

Impressive score. Congrats !! :) Can you help me out with your strategy for SC ? I find it so hard to improve, no matter how many problems I solve. What was your preparation strategy for verbal, being a non native speaker, how did you manage to score a V44 ? What were your GMATPrep scores and by any chance you scored more than your prep test scores ?
Getting defeated is just a temporary notion, giving it up is what makes it permanent.

Can you tell us about the gap you took between your second and third attempts?

What was your strategy to prepare for third attempt after your second attempt?

Congrats buddy...740 and that too with V 44 is amazing!

I am in a similar boat as you were when you were going for a re-take. I hope you can surely help me with some of the problems that I am facing while prep'ng for the re-take:

1. I remember a fuzzy image of questions and now while practicing either a remember the correct answer or I remember the correct reasoning for that question. Because of this I am not able to do justice with the question and apply my full mind to crack it. Obviously, the questions during exam will be new and this way i am not gaining enough confidence with practice.

How did you cope up with that?

2. I feel the lack of study material, practice questions. I am sure you will having lots of.
Can you suggest me some good links which can provide me some practice questions

3. I am not having enough practice material for GMAT type RCs. The RCs that i find on web are mostly CAT type RCs. Can you please help me in this regard.

4. Single paragraph RCs usually come on GMAT and are one of my big weaknesses. Some help please.

5. What was your study approach for SC. Which material and in what order?

This post should be required reading for everyone who doesn't reach their target score on the first attempt.

I also like your takeaway that says, "Your attitude will matter more than your aptitude...So never, never, never panic.." This is a key factor in achieving a great score.

Cheers,
Brent
Hi Brent,

@confuse mind:
PFB my answers for ur questions.

I have faced the same situation too,may it be in MGMAT mocks or in GMATPrep. When compared to the GMATPrep, I found more repeats in MGMAT.Although your scores may be skewed, you need not bother much as ur total scores will be influenced by those new questions that u face too. There is very little that anyone can do on this. You may attempt different sets of exams that are available online.

For ur questions 2 and 3 : U can very well rely on OG10,11,12 and OG Verbal review for verbal section.I have heard that the SAT RC materials will also help for GMAT.However, I have not tried my hands on them.
For the quants section, U may try ur hands at the 4GMAT materials along with the usual ones such as OGs and Kaplan.
There are a lot of practice sets and tough GMAT Qs,which have been compiled and posted in the internet by fellow aspirants. These would really help u.I am not sure whether I can post external links in this forum.Sorry for the limited information.

4. Single paragraph RCs usually come on GMAT and are one of my big weaknesses. Some help please.
You need not differentiate RCs based on the length. However, the general opinion is that shorter RCs will have tougher questions than the longer ones.Whatever may be the length of the RC, u may follow the same approach that u use normally, provided u feel that ur current approach is effective.

5. What was your study approach for SC. Which material and in what order?

For SC, as usual I started with the basics from Manhattan SC guide.
I also took notes on each topic for quick reference.
Tried to memorise as many idioms as possible.
When I solved the questions, I started without timing them. For each question,I used to mark the answer and then write the type of error in the given statement along with reasons for the other answers to be wrong. This helped me greatly to learn and improve in the SC section. You can try this in the initial days of ur preparaton. Then slowly move towards timed attempts.
Also maintain an error log, atleast for the questions in which you went wrong even after verifying the answers of your first shot.

Basics : Manhattan SC guide
Strategies : Kaplan 800,Kaplan GMAT verbal workbook
Prep Questions : OG10,11,12,OG verbal review,Kaplan GMAT verbal workbook.

Hope this helps you :)

Sabari Ram

Hi Ram,

Can you please let me know, how you figured out your mistakes in the verbal section after the 2nd attempt? Did you do anything different while trying to improve your verbal section knowledge?
