OG 2015 error log

by empem » Tue Sep 30, 2014 8:50 am
Hi everyone!

Could someone point me to an advanced error log for the OG 2015? I'm new to this forum and I'm only finding older ones.

Thanks!

Hi empem,

The 2015 Official Guide (OG2015) is identical to the 13th edition of the Official Guide (OG13), except the questions in the OG2015 are also available online.
So, you don't need a new error log.

Cheers,
Brent

Hi empem,

How long have you been studying? And what resources are you using besides the GMAT2015?

Studying for the GMAT is a big task, so you if you have any questions about your study plan or any of the materials that you come across, you should post back here and ask. There are plenty of Experts here who can help.

Ok, great, thank you! Just downloaded this one: Improvement Chart for Official Guide for GMAT Review (2015 or 13th Edition)

I have the full Manhattan GMAT package including the foundation books. I started slowly back in August with the math foundations book since I really needed to get back to basics. Basically got straight A's in high school in everything but math where I always just kept afloat. Didn't take any math in college really since I got a liberal arts degree. I've just finished the first Manhattan guide and am now moving on to the OG problems set out at the end.

I have one exam scheduled on Jan 14 and a second on Feb 17 - then the school deadlines are shortly after. I'm only studying by myself, 2 hours per day after work, then 4 hours on Saturdays - although I haven't been hitting 14 hours/week yet due to work and being sick. I'm going to invest 30 hours in a private GMAT tutor as well, meeting her 2 hours every two weeks to go through any particular difficult areas.

My goal is a 640 even though I'm applying to very competitive schools, I've just accepted the GMAT will be the weak part of my application and just want to make sure I don't get cut off and not considered - otherwise I believe I have a pretty good and interesting profile.

I haven't looked at verbal yet but I'm not too worried, it's really the math I'm worried about. I'm also moving at a very slow pace with the math and although I guess it will go a little faster once I'm over the first "bump" so to speak and start getting more used to math. How long are the OG problems at the end of each guide supposed to take me? Should I do all of them or just some of them and then do the one's I skipped once I'm done with all the guides? Any other pointers considering my situation? I don't know anyone else studying for the GMAT right now and the friends who have taken it all got very high scores and were great at math to start with.

Maybe you didn't mean I should post this here, in that case I'll repost somewhere else:)

I also download the Error Log for General GMAT Practice but how do I best use the two? The other one is self explanatory but this second one doesn't allow you to refer back to ALL the questions in the same way and thus keep track of how you've performed in detail (feeling, type of error etc). Is there an error log that combines the two main functionalities of the two excel documents?

The time it takes to complete each day's activities varies from day to day. At the beginning of the Study Guide, don't worry about your timing per question; just focus on the required concepts. The questions in the Official Guide (OG) are arranged in order of difficulty. So, if you're finding the first few questions too easy, you might skip ahead.

As far as extra pointers go, I suggest that you stay with a Day's activities until you have mastered the content for that day. So, for example, if you answer all of the OG questions for a certain day, and you feel that you still haven't mastered that Day's content, I suggest that you use BTG's tagging feature to help you focus on one topic at a time. For example, here are all of the questions tagged as statistics questions: https://www.beatthegmat.com/forums/tags/ ... statistics
See the left side of that linked page for more tag options.

I also suggest that you spend a lot of time reviewing the responses from the Experts on this site, since they often model the steps you should be taking when answering questions.

I hope that helps.

Cheers,
Brent

The Error log for General GMAT Practice is to remind you of general mistakes that you're making.
The Improvement Chart is to help you identify areas of weakness (it's also a convenient way to check your answers instead of referring to the answer key at the back of each section in the OG)
These is no resource that combines these two features.

I hope that helps.

Cheers,
Brent
