Is the product of x and y greater than 60?

1. The sum of x and y is greater than 60.
2. Each of the variables is greater than 2.

1. Statement 1 alone is sufficient but statement 2 alone is not sufficient to answer the question asked.
2. Statement 2 alone is sufficient but statement 1 alone is not sufficient to answer the question asked.
3. Both statements 1 and 2 together are sufficient to answer the question but neither statement is sufficient alone.
4. Each statement alone is sufficient to answer the question.
5. Statements 1 and 2 are not sufficient to answer the question asked and additional data is needed to answer the
statements.

(1) When x is 1 and y is 60, their sum is more than 60 but their product is not. When x is 2 and y is 59, their sum is more than 60 and so is their product. Moreover, we are not given what type of numbers x and y are. Insufficient

(2) If x > 2 and y > 2 and not given what type of numbers x and y are; their product is greater than 4. Nothing much can be said. Insufficient

Blend (1) and (2)

x > 2, y > 2, and x + y > 60 then take x slightly more than 2 and y as 58; their product (x y) now is definitely greater than 116, and hence, YES, it's more than 60.

1. insufficient [example 60+1 is greater than 60; 60*1 is not]
2. insufficient [3*4 =12 less than 60; 5*13 =65 greater than 60]

1&2 combined - Sufficient
58*2.01>60
