Waymarsh - Argument

by akhpad » Sun May 09, 2010 8:37 pm
The following appeared as part of an editorial in the Waymarsh city newspaper:

Last year, parents of the first grade in one of the schools of Waymarsh district express satisfaction over the reading skills their children displayed but were disappointed with their maths skill. To remedy this problem and to improve the level of elementary education in our district, all teachers in Waymarsh University has to undergo a teacher training programme to take extra maths score.

Discuss how well reasoned . . . etc.

The author claims in the above argument regarding parents' dissatisfaction that the parents of the first grade children who are studying at one of the schools of Waymarsh district shows happiness however they show unhappiness over the maths skill.

To overcome the above problem, parents suggested that all the teachers of Waymarsh University, one of the schools of Waymarsh district, have to undergo for teacher training to improve their maths skill in addition to they have language skills. However, the information provided does not justify this conclusion.

Children are not performing well in maths; it does not mean that teachers have lack of knowledge in their maths skills. Teachers may be good in maths skills and there might be some other reasons that the children are not performing well in their maths. The reasons could be such as teachers may not pay much attention over the children, teachers may not be getting right remuneration, environment of the schools may not be good, proper teaching methodologies may not be implemented, and the infrastructure of the schools and the equipments of teaching maths may not be available etc. I believe one should have thorough analysis and then should come up for the proper plan for improvement.

To understand maths, one should be good in analytical skill and children might be weak in analytical skill. This forces children to pay less attention on learning maths skill as they are unable to understand it properly and hence they are unable to perform well in maths skill.

Not only the teachers but also the parents are responsible for teaching their children. Children usually do not pay attention on studying and their parents are responsible for giving them proper guidance after the school. I believe; in this scenario, parents have more responsibility than teachers. Children just stay at school for 6-7 hrs but they stay at home the rest of the time.

Hence, I can conclude that teachers should go for training not only for maths but also for all their weakness areas and parents of the respective children should look after schools to provide more skills and practice to their children. Parents should provide good foods and nourishments to their children to increase their analytical and puzzling skill.
