I am not sure if someone has already posted a similar topic, there I gave it a try. I am thinking whether I should get into MSc General Management or MBA. The pros and cons of both are clear, I am just wondering, if I get into MSc will it somehow impact my career? Is it possible to get to top positions with MSc while facing a competition from MBA hoders?
The part of the charm in an MBA is the title itself. An MBA signifies that you have a general management experience and are not a specialist. The connotation that an MSc gives is that you are a specialist.
The theory behind this is that over a period of time you will eventually reach a position of a general manager https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_manager (as opposed to functional management). At this position it is your cross-functional exposure in a global environment that will help your cause.
So net net I think the strong brand equity that an MBA carries in the business world will definitely be a plus point if you are looking at such a role in the long-term.
