Denying that one of its many irregularities had been the long term mismanaging of company funds, ADM corporation produced clear evidence to back its claim.

A) its many irregularities [color=blue]had been[/color] the long term

B) its many irregularities [color=blue]has been[/color] the long term

C) its many irregularities is the long term - CORRECT -- because it is happening in the present ...this sentence is in the present moment ...

D) [color=blue]their [/color]many irregularities is the long term

E) [color=blue]their [/color]many irregularities had been the long term

This action (irregularities) is said to have started sometime in the past & continued until ADM corporation produced clear evidence. So, we require Had Been.

Please explain correct usage of verb here. I am damn confused

"had been the" should go with "mismanagement"
corporation is singular. this rules out the pronoun "their"
presumably, the evidence is based on record keeping from the past. So I'm going with B.

D & E corporation is singular (as it is a single entity)

I feel B is better than A because it dint only continued in the past .. it started in the past continued till now...

experts please advice.
