You are planning well ahead which is smart. In reply to your question, your experience in China can certainly be an asset for both your career advancement and MBA plans.

Even though you may not be currently working for a global firm, you should seek professional opportunities during your time there to gain leadership experiences, project management responsibilities, and teamwork well. Some of these you may be able to negotiate for once you are settled in your role and have proven yourself. All these skill sets, along with your international experience, will be valuable when preparing for business school. If you don't speak Mandarin already, this would be great to learn during your time in Shanghai.

You still have a few years to take the GMAT, but often it's better to do this while you are still in the studying mode. So you may want to start practicing soon.
