Population tuning in to news

More citizens of Apacheou tune in to nightly news programs than do citizens of Bostello. Thus, citizens of Apacheou know more about global issues than do citizens of Bostello.

The conclusion is weakened by all of the following EXCEPT:

A. The population of Apacheou is 2,000,000; the population of Bostello is 1,000,000.

B. Citizens of Bostello are more likely to listen to news radio programs than are citizens of Apacheou.

C. Citizens of Apacheou generally put the television on as background noise during dinner and chores, while citizens of Bostello never watch television unless they are paying full attention to it.

D. The nightly news programs in Apacheou are restricted to tabloid coverage of celebrities.

E. Citizens in Bostello can view nightly news programs only by purchasing cable television access.

Please support your answer with explanations, Especially explanation for/against choice A. OA would follow.

IMO E.

The conclusion is that citizens of Apacheou know more about global issues than do citizens of Bostello since more number of people in Apacheou tune in to nightly news programs than do citizens of Bostello.

Option A does not directly weaken the argument but, however, it does weaken it indirectly. Option A says that population Apacheou is double the population of Bostello. Option A shows that the reason why more number of people in Apacheou tune in to nightly news programs is that the population of Apacheou is more than the population of Bostello. Lets say 80% of population in Apacheou tunes in to nightly news programs. But what if 100% of people in Bostello tune in to nightly news programs. So it would be unfair to judge that citizens of Apacheou know more about global issues than do citizens of Bostello based on the number of people who tune in to nightly news programs.

I'd go with E as well & Hardik's explanation on why not A is as usual good. Is E the OA?

How about option B? t doesn't strengthen as it doesn't say 'nightly' but it doesn't weaken either......

Global issue awareness-->News programs

If the citizens of bostello also listens to news on radio,they also know abt the global issues.
