is "and also" incorrect in GMAT SC ?

Hi All,

In the below question..the OA is
"A"
.....the reason that Manhattan gives for kicking out "B" is that "and also" is unidiomatic. But Q216....OG 10 says it is perfectly OK to use "and also" for parallel list....

OG-10, Q216 says: To convey the idea that shifting a portion of health-benefit costs back to workers has two complementary effects,
the correct sentence must link grammatically parallel statements of these effects with and also or with not only ... but also....

But Manhattan has different story to tell....as I mentioned above...

It was not long after the 1930s commenced that such baritone singers as Bing Crosby and Russ Columbo contributed to the popularization of a type of romantic, soothing singing that came to be called “crooning.”

A)It was not long after the 1930s commenced that such baritone singers as Bing Crosby and Russ Columbo contributed to

B)Not long after the commencement of the decade of the 1930s, baritone singers such as Bing Crosby and also Russ Columbo decided to contribute in

C)Not long after the 1930s commenced, baritone singers like Bing Crosby and Russ Columbo contributed to

D)Not long after the beginning of the 1930s commencement, baritone singers like Bing Crosby and Russ Columbo had contributed to

E)It was not long after the 1930s commenced that baritone singers such as Bing Crosby and Russ Columbo had contributed in.

Hi Mohit,

For OG-10 explanation they are talking about two grammatically parallel statements. Here "and also" is used in giving examples, "such as A and also B" which is unidiomatic.

Leaving aside the OG explanation(I find OG10 explanations less clearer somehow), B is awkard as in "commencement of the decade of 1930s"

Secondly contribute to looks the correct idiomatic expression.

B)Not long after the commencement of the decade of the 1930s, baritone singers such as Bing Crosby and also Russ Columbo decided to contribute in

Hi Mohit,

There can be many ways in which one can misuse "and also". I think in this particular case "such as..." tells us that a set of examples is being offered and while giving examples "and also" is inccorrect, we typically say..." ...B can be found in various animals such as C and D...

hope this helps...this question i think is more about usage of such as...

Why is 'C' not the correct answer? 'contribute to' rather than 'contibute in' sounds like the correct idiom and this options also looks more concise than A.
