questionnaire~~~

by yangliu0401 » Tue Feb 10, 2009 4:54 pm
In 1987, an environmental action group reported a 65 % response to a questionnaire sent to all of its members. The subject of the questionnaire was ocean dumpin. On the basis of these results, the group expects a 65% to 75% response rate to its upcoming questionnaire on air pollution.

The environmental group's expectation is based on which of the following assumption?

A. The group's membership has not declined by more than 5% since 1987
B. The same number of surveys will be distributed as were distributed in 1987
C. People who are concerned about ocean dumping are even more concerned about air pollution
D. The response rate of one questionaire can be presented from that of another
E. The total amount of air pollution today is the same of it was in 1987.

The ans. is D, while I chose C.
Can not undertand the logic. SOS!!!

It is easy for me to explain after you have given the answer :-)

Because X, therefore Y.
X = the response to survey on ocean dumping was 65% ( this is the premise )
Y = the response to a similar survey may be between 65% and 75%. ( this is conclusion ).

The commonality between the premise and the conclusion is only similar response % or response rate. This is given in choice D

However choice C talks incorrectly about number of people who responded to the survey.

Are you sure D is worded correctly?

The response rate of one questionaire can be presented from that of another

Can be presented -- does not seem correct

That's the original one. Meanwhile, I do not think that the sentence is hard to undertand, but the logic~ :)

Narrowed to C ans D !

And asked myself for each option if the argument will stand without it.
D was the answer i selected :D

I am poor at sentence correction. So what ?? Einstein was a poor reader once upon a time.

I'd say D, but I'm afraid more because of my intuition than any logic.
